Revolutions and revolutionaries:  then and  now

Remembering and celebrating the lives of revolutionaries (Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, and other comrades) around Martyr’s Day (Shaheed Diwas, March 23)

An evening of online conversations and cultural expressions – Friday,  April 1, 2022

  • Time: 6 p.m., India Time
  • 5.30 p.m., Pakistan Time

The revolutionary zeal, as reflected through Ramprasad Bismil’s Uruj-E-Kamyabi, was among the greatest accelerators for the movement against colonialism – for freedom and independence from the imperial regime. Generation after generation is testimony to the fact that the nature of revolutions has changed, but the fundamental urge for freedom and justice (Azadi aur Insaaf), remains the same.  Many have given their lives for it in the post-colonial world too, courting martyrdom in the process. Even today, many are martyred and jailed for asserting the values of freedom, justice, and democracy.

At a time when South Asia is reeling under new militarised nationalisms and fundamentalist pushes,  believers in people’s revolutions need to garner back  their strength and resolve to fight against oppressive, neo-colonial, and divisive forces. New resolves and  ideas are required, and new synergies must be found.

The objective of the Hindustani Socialist Republican Association then was to establish a Socialist Democratic Republic. It is more relevant now  than in the present neo-liberal crony capitalist-controlled majoritarian and authoritarian state.

PIPFPD believes that the people of India, Pakistan, and Jammu & Kashmir must come together for a peaceful, socialist, secular, and democratic future.

We invite you to join us for an evening of facilitated conversations and cultural expressions between generations and ideologies.
