‘Relevance of Revolutionary ideals for youth in India and Pakistan today’
The politics of hate, violence and oppression by regimes are on an unprecedented rise across the world, especially in India and Pakistan. They are flashing their hate and intimidation time and again on young minds and bodies. Thoughts of revolutionary ideas are especially being targeted. The values of democracy, human rights, equality, freedom, peace, non-violent dissent, etc. are continuously threatened. Governments are doing everything possible so that people fear them, obey them, and give up any thoughts of dissent and resistance.
However, to the great dismay of oppressive regimes, resistance against authoritarianism and militarisation has also been growing in unprecedented ways. Courage and commitment have become the faces of this resistance in the subcontinent, led by women and youth. Jails and bullets are no longer able to intimidate or silence brave hearts. Today, when neo-colonial capitalism and neo-fascism are under threat from the revolutionary ideas and young people, every weapon of state repression is used against the movements to silence people.
This evokes the memory of colonial times when young revolutionaries were targeted for asserting freedom, justice, and human dignity. They were also called anti-nationals, terrorists, and divisive because their slogans threatened the imperialist regimes then.
A century later, the spirit of revolutionary zeal continues to be carried forward, for an idea has the power to inspire and even change the world.
PIPFPD is facilitating the ‘Guftgu’ (conversation) among the diverse subcontinental progressive community to understand the relevance of the revolutionary ideals and framework of Bhagat Singh and associates. The effort is to bring together the multiple political views of young socio-political-cultural activists and the many imaginations of a progressive political future. The ideals and revolutionary zeal will make us reflect and understand the history of oppression and affirm and celebrate the resistance. The conversations around resistance and revolution promise to be unique, as they bring together varied young people from the subcontinent, in cultural and political expressions and sharing.
